Man United prepared to let Leny Yoro leave on loan, claims report
Manchester United are reportedly ready to sanction a temporary exit for defender Leny Yoro during the January transfer window, according to Football Insider.
The 20-year-old centre-back has found opportunities hard to come by this season, starting only two matches since his high-profile move to Old Trafford in 2024.
While the Frenchman recently made his senior international debut in a 4-1 victory over Belgium on 5 October, his club career has stalled under manager Michael Carrick.
Now, there are growing suggestions that the Premier League giants are prepared to let the youngster leave on loan to secure the regular minutes he desperately needs.
Concerns over Yoro’s development
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has revealed that there are internal worries regarding the defender’s readiness for the highest level.
While Yoro’s technical ability remains highly regarded, his physical progression has reportedly not met expectations since his arrival from French side Lille.
Brown previously mentioned in January that Yoro had benefited from working alongside experienced teammates such as Harry Maguire. However, his progress has not been as rapid as the Old Trafford hierarchy had anticipated when they secured his signature.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said:
“The problem at the moment is, he needs to be playing every week to develop his game, but that’s not going to happen at Man United because they can’t afford to take a risk.”
The former scout suggested that the club’s current demands force them to rely on more experienced figures rather than blooding youth.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said:
“They’d prefer to go with more proven, tried and tested options because of the situation they are in, they need to win games so they don’t have time to focus on developing players.”
Physicality and experience lacking
Despite his obvious talent on the ball, Yoro has apparently struggled with the robust nature of English football, leading to doubts over his immediate future in the starting XI.
Brown noted that while the technical side of the defender’s game is impressive, other areas require urgent attention.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said:
“Yoro is excellent technically, on the ball he’s very good, but the physical and the mental side of his game is lacking, and I’m told that has become a concern for Man United.”
The former scout believes a short-term move away from Old Trafford could be the perfect solution to help the young Frenchman adapt.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said:
“I think they could be prepared to send him on loan in January, because it would help his development and get him ready to play a role for them long-term.”
Carrick’s defensive overhaul
Yoro’s potential departure comes at a time when Carrick is planning a significant restructure of his defensive unit.
United previously addressed their forward line in the summer of 2025 and revamped their midfield in 2026, leaving the back five as the primary focus for 2027.
With Carrick concerned about his current options, the club is expected to target multiple defensive reinforcements, including a new left-back and further centre-back cover.
A loan move for Yoro would free up space in the squad while allowing the former Lille man to gain the vital experience he is currently missing alongside senior figures like Harry Maguire.
