Former Man Utd winger Jadon Sancho receives offer from Getafe

Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has received an official transfer offer from La Liga outfit Getafe as he continues his search for a new club as a free agent.

The 26-year-old left Old Trafford at the end of last season upon the expiry of his contract, ending a difficult five-year spell in Manchester following his initial £73m arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.

Representatives for the England international are now in discussions with the Spanish side over a proposed deal, though reaching an agreement is expected to be complicated.

A surprise pathway in La Liga

Getafe currently sit 14th in La Liga and are competing in the Europa Conference League this season. The Madrid-based team are actively trying to find a resolution to secure Sancho’s signature.

Should the wide man complete a move to the Coliseum, he would join former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal, who recently signed for the Spanish club on a free transfer until June 2027.

Sancho is understood to favour a move away from English football but remains open to exploring all available avenues as he seeks to reignite his career in Europe.

The forward spent last season on loan with Aston Villa, where he made 39 appearances and featured as a substitute in their Europa League triumph under Unai Emery.

That spell followed previous temporary stints away from Old Trafford, including a return to Borussia Dortmund and a campaign with Chelsea.

The agreement with Chelsea included an obligation to buy, but the London club opted to pay a £5m penalty to return Sancho to United after he made 41 appearances for them.

Rejection from Europe and non-league clarify

Despite previous success in Germany, a return to Signal Iduna Park was ruled out by Dortmund manager Niko Kovac during the recent transfer window.

Speaking last month about transfer speculation surrounding the forward, Kovac said:

“We’re very well positioned. The squad is already very large. We have 26 outfield players, many of them young. Therefore, we don’t need to concern ourselves with that.”

Italian side Fiorentina also decided against making a move for the unattached attacker when presented with the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer.

Sancho recently spent time keeping fit at North West Counties side Flixton FC, sparking internet rumours before the non-league club issued a statement to clarify the situation.

Addressing the social media chatter regarding the winger’s appearance at the ground, Flixton owner Christopher Garcia said:

“To clarify, Jadon was not on trial with the club and was not involved in any transfer discussions. He simply used our facilities for a private training session to maintain his fitness while preparing for the next chapter of his career.”

The non-league owner praised Sancho’s conduct during his stay, adding:

“Jadon is a world-class footballer who has achieved more in the game than most players could ever dream of. He deserves respect for both his accomplishments and the way he conducted himself during his visit, not the unwarranted criticism that has followed.”

What’s next for Sancho

Sancho’s representatives are continuing dialogue with Getafe as they weigh up the contract offer from the La Liga outfit.

With options in MLS and Saudi Arabia also on the table, the former Manchester United man must now decide whether a move to the Spanish suburbs represents the right step to revive his career.
