Real Betis man Facundo Bernal sent off for Lamine Yamal headbutt

Real Betis midfielder Facundo Bernal was shown a straight red card for headbutting Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal during a fiery La Liga clash on Saturday.

The violent incident flared up in the 54th minute, right after Abde Ezzalzouli had scored to pull Real Betis back to 3-2 down against Hansi Flick’s team.

The goal immediately sparked a pitchside scuffle while Barcelona were still reeling from the strike and dealing with an injured player.

Drama erupts after Abde strike

Fermín López was left lying injured on the turf, claiming he had been fouled by Ezzalzouli before the goal was scored.

Bernal approached López while the midfielder was still down, sparking an argument between the two players as tensions spilled over.

Yamal quickly rushed over to defend his Barcelona teammate, pushing the Real Betis midfielder to intervene in the escalating confrontation.

A moment of madness in midfield

Bernal responded by grabbing the young winger by the head and thrusting his forehead into Yamal during the heated exchange.

Referee De Burgos Bengoetxea showed no hesitation in handing the Uruguayan midfielder a direct red card for violent conduct.

Yamal was also booked for his initial role in the melee, receiving a yellow card from the match official.

Pellegrini’s men left short

The dismissal left Manuel Pellegrini’s side down to 10 men for almost the entirety of the second half while trailing in a vital fixture.

Bernal, who had been selected in central midfield next to Dani Ceballos in a 4-2-3-1 setup, now awaits his mandatory suspension.

The length of his ban will be decided by the Competition Committee in due course following the official match report.
