England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has pleaded guilty to driving without due care or attention after almost causing a multi-car collision in his luxury supercar.

The Everton star was pulled over by officers in Cheshire after ignoring a road sign and accelerating away from the scene.

The incident has sparked a criminal prosecution for careless driving, with the details of the near-miss now laid bare in official court documents.

A near miss in Knutsford

The incident occurred on 14 April in the town of Knutsford, where the 32-year-old was spotted behind the wheel of his £200,000 blue Lamborghini Urus.

According to police reports, Pickford’s careless driving forced other motorists to take emergency action to avoid a serious crash.

PC Cecil Ricardo of Cheshire Police had just departed from the local station when he first observed the distinctive vehicle, which featured personalised registration plates.

The officer was waiting at a red light on Bexton Road when he saw the goalkeeper’s car travelling along Princess Street.

Describing the moment the vehicle reached a key intersection, PC Ricardo wrote:

“It reached the junction with Toft Road, completely ignored the give way lines and pulled onto Toft Road causing two vehicles to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision.”

Police pursuit in a thirty zone

Following the near miss, the officer immediately activated his emergency lights and sirens to set off in pursuit of the high-powered SUV.

However, the police patrol vehicle struggled to close the gap as the Lamborghini accelerated rapidly down Toft Road.

PC Ricardo noted that he reached speeds of 50mph during the chase, yet the England international’s car was still pulling away.

The speed limit on that particular stretch of road is restricted to 30mph.

Pickford eventually noticed the pursuing police vehicle behind him and pulled over to the side of the road.

Mitigation hearing scheduled

The former Sunderland academy graduate has now admitted the charge of careless driving in writing.

His case was recently adjourned at Warrington Magistrates Court, but the goalkeeper has requested a personal appearance for his sentencing.

Writing to the court to explain his position, Pickford said:

“I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation.”

The experienced shot-stopper is now scheduled to appear before Chester Magistrates’ Court on 7 December to learn his penalty.

Focus remains on the pitch

With 92 international caps to his name, Pickford has been a mainstay for his country, starting in both the Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 finals.

He has also represented England at three separate World Cups, in 2018, 2022, and 2026, alongside making 336 appearances for Everton.

Before establishing himself as the undisputed number one at Goodison Park, the goalkeeper gained valuable experience during loan spells with six different clubs, including Bradford City, Preston North End, and Burton Albion.

This off-field legal distraction comes at a busy period for the experienced goalkeeper as he balances his Premier League commitments with his international duties.
