Teddy Sheringham has tipped Liverpool striker Alexander Isak to beat Manchester City star Erling Haaland to the Premier League Golden Boot.

The former Manchester United forward believes the Sweden international is currently the finest striker in the division and has backed him to claim the top scorer accolade.

Isak has enjoyed an exceptional start to the season under new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, flourishing in his second campaign at Anfield.

The 27-year-old has already found the net four times in the top flight this term, surpassing his total of three goals from the entirety of his injury-hit previous campaign.

Sheringham hails phenomenal Swedish forward

Speaking in an interview with Hajper, Sheringham expressed his immense admiration for the Anfield star and his style of play.

Sheringham said:

“For me, he’s the best striker in the Premier League. He is phenomenal.”

The former England striker wants to see Isak claim the top scorer accolade ahead of Manchester City’s prolific forward.

Sheringham added:

“I’d like to see him win the Golden Boot this year, and not just to beat Erling Haaland but for the way that Isak plays the game, and how hungry he is for goals.”

The United legend also praised Isak’s demeanour on the pitch, highlighting his intense desire to score goals.

Overcoming a difficult debut year at Anfield

Isak moved to Anfield in a massive £125million transfer from Newcastle United, but his first year on Merseyside was heavily disrupted by fitness issues.

A fractured fibula and an ankle injury in December forced the Swedish international to spend a significant portion of the campaign on the sidelines.

Sheringham noted that the overall environment at the club did not suit the striker during his debut season, which hindered his ability to perform.

Sheringham explained:

“He was obviously not right last season but the whole situation at Liverpool was wrong, even down to playing two centre-forwards, and it just didn’t work for anyone.”

Now fully fit, Isak is showing the sharp shooting and movement that make him such a dangerous opponent.

Rest of the Premier League should be worried

His clinical goals against Ipswich Town and Bournemouth have highlighted his intelligence and positioning inside the penalty area.

Sheringham pointed to Isak’s constant movement as the key factor that separates him from other top-flight forwards who stand still.

Sheringham said:

“He knows where the goal is on both sides, and he really is fantastic in the box, just being in the right place at the right time, and following up on chances.”

The former striker believes that Isak’s ability to react to loose balls and keep moving in the box makes him look back to his very best.

According to Sheringham, rival clubs should be deeply concerned about the threat the Liverpool frontman poses throughout the rest of the campaign.

With Iraola now guiding his development, Isak looks primed to mount a serious challenge for individual honours and establish himself as the world’s best.
