Benjamin Sesko issues apology after withdrawing from Slovenia squad
Old TraffordManchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has confirmed his withdrawal from the Slovenia squad for the upcoming international fixtures after picking up an injury.
The 23-year-old forward missed the weekend trip to face Fulham in the Premier League. He had featured last Wednesday in the Carabao Cup defeat against Brighton before feeling discomfort.
Sesko shares his disappointment
Sesko has now released a statement on social media to address his national team absence. Translated from Slovenian, his message explained the regret of missing upcoming Nations League fixtures.
Speaking on Instagram, Sesko said:
I am very sorry that I will have to miss the national team’s upcoming matches. I have always played for Slovenia – and always will – with heart and pride.
The forward stressed that his immediate priority is rehabilitation. He intends to return to action quickly for both club and country.
Sesko added:
Right now, the most important thing is to focus fully on my recovery. I am already working on getting back on the pitch as soon as possible to help both the national team and my club once again.
Carrick assesses the damage
United manager Michael Carrick provided clarity on the situation over the weekend. He addressed reporters after the striker was left out of the matchday squad.
Speaking to MUTV on Sunday, Carrick said:
He just felt a little bit of pain after the game the other night. We’re assessing that. Hopefully, it’s not too bad but we will have to see.
United later confirmed that further evaluations will take place. The club announced that medical staff will map out an individual recovery plan following tests this week.
A slow start at Old Trafford
Sesko has made six appearances across all competitions this season for United. However, he is yet to secure a single start in the Premier League.
Instead, Carrick has utilised him in the Carabao Cup and the Champions League. Other squad members have stepped into attacking roles during his absence.
Matheus Cunha has operated in a false nine position recently. Bryan Mbeumo is another potential option to lead the line for the manager.

The current international break offers a crucial window for rehabilitation. Sesko will be aiming to regain full fitness before domestic action resumes.
