Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Arsenal starlet Myles Lewis-Skelly as they look to solve their ongoing problems at left-back.

According to journalist Danyal Khan on the Transfer Talk Podcast, as reported by Caught Offside, the Red Devils hold a genuine interest in the versatile 19-year-old.

The Old Trafford club are eager to recruit a player who can offer utility across multiple positions, and the Arsenal academy graduate fits that description perfectly.

A versatile solution for the Red Devils

United have struggled with a lack of depth and consistency on the left side of their defence for several seasons, making left-back a priority position to address.

The recruitment team has identified Lewis-Skelly as an option who could eventually establish himself as a key player at Old Trafford, rather than merely acting as squad cover or providing competition for places.

The teenager has caught the eye with his ability to transition smoothly between defence and central midfield, making him one of the country’s most exciting young prospects.

His capacity to operate comfortably in both defensive and midfield roles is particularly attractive to United as they seek to build a more flexible squad.

Speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast, Khan explained United’s current transfer thinking and their admiration for the player. Khan said:

“I think they are focused on next summer; Lewis Hall is still very much top [of the list]. I wouldn’t discount Myles Lewis-Skelly, even before the summer, he was someone they really like,”

While Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall remains the primary target on United’s shortlist, Lewis-Skelly is firmly on their radar as a serious alternative option.

Arsenal determined to keep hold of academy graduate

Prying the young England international away from north London will be an incredibly difficult task for the Manchester United hierarchy.

Arsenal have repeatedly indicated that they want to keep hold of their academy graduate and have no desire to lose one of their most promising young talents, especially to a direct Premier League rival.

Manager Mikel Arteta is said to highly value the teenager’s tactical flexibility and his capacity to influence games from deep midfield areas.

The Gunners are well protected in any potential negotiations, with the player currently under contract at the Emirates Stadium until 2030.

This long-term deal gives Arsenal a strong position regarding his future, and the north London club are fully aware that letting a homegrown prospect join United could prove to be a massive mistake in the long run.

The player prefers north London stay

Any potential move is also complicated by the player’s own desires for his immediate career path.

Reports suggest that Lewis-Skelly’s own preference has been to remain at Arsenal and progress under Arteta’s guidance in north London.

The midfielder enjoyed an encouraging period playing in the engine room last season and has shown great confidence dictating play from deep.

If United are to test Arsenal’s resolve, they will likely need to submit an extraordinary financial offer to even convince the Gunners to open discussions.

With previous reports suggesting the Gunners could demand a massive transfer fee for the teenager, United may have to look elsewhere if their Premier League rivals refuse to negotiate.
